How do You Manufacture Perfume?

1 Answer

Perfume production involves various methods to extract aromatic compounds. The most commonly used technique is steam distillation, which extracts oils from flowers and leaves by passing steam through the raw materials. Delicate substances that may be damaged by high heat are extracted using solvent extraction, resulting in a highly concentrated oil. Enfleurage, a traditional and less common method, absorbs the fragrance of flowers by placing them on a greased surface. Maceration follows a similar principle but uses warmed fats to capture scents. Lastly, expression is used for citrus peels, where essential oils are released through mechanical pressure. Each method is carefully chosen to preserve the integrity and unique characteristics of the fragrance ingredients.
